AAAS Roger Revelle Fellows
in Global Stewardship
L. Jeremy Richardson
2007-08 Roger Revelle Fellow in Global Stewardship
Before starting his tenure as the Revelle Fellow, Jeremy
Richardson was the John Bahcall Public Policy Fellow
at the American Astronomical Society (AAS). In this
capacity, he coordinated public policy and government
relations activities for the AAS, tracked federal funding
for astronomy research, and led grass-roots lobbying
efforts.
Previously, Jeremy spent over six years at NASAs
Goddard Space Flight Center (three as a graduate student
from the University of Colorado and three as a NASA
Postdoctoral Fellow), where he characterized the atmospheric
properties of a planet over 150 light years away. His
research culminated in the first observed emission spectrum
of an extrasolar planet and revealed tantalizing evidence
for the composition of the planets atmosphere,
a discovery featured in the New York Times in February
2007.
Trained as a physicist, Jeremy recently decided to
refocus his professional efforts on technological and
policy solutions to the climate crisis. He was selected
to attend a training session through The Climate Project
to present Al Gores slide show on climate change
and raise public awareness of the issue, and he has
given the slide show to a variety of audiences. Jeremy
has elected to use the Revelle Fellowship to work directly
with The Climate Project to research potential solutions
to the climate crisis and to track both state and national
legislative developments to inform presenters.
