About Sir Crispin Tickell

Sir Crispin Tickell is chancellor of the University of Kent at Canterbury; chairman of the Climate Institute of Washington, DC; and director of the Green College Centre for Environmental Policy and Understanding.

He spent most of his life in the Diplomatic Service as chef de cabinet to the president of the European Commission from 1977 to 1980; ambassador to Mexico from 1981 to 1983; permanent secretary of the Overseas Development Administration from 1984 to 1987; and British permanent representative to the United Nations from 1987 to 1990. He was also president of the Royal Geographical Society from 1990 to 1993 and chairman of the International Institute for Environment and Development from 1990 to 1994.

A long-time environmentalist, Sir Crispin has devoted the past decade to major leadership roles within that community in the U.K. and Europe.
